Special Sunset Offering this Sunday

I love Sunset Bible Camp. Though it wasn’t at its current location way back then, I grew up going to Sunset every summer. All four of my kids grew up going to Sunset. It has had a great spiritual impact on my family.

This past August, Sunset’s dining hall was burned down in the Creek County wildfires. We were fortunate to have lost only that facility, but it is obviously a necessary one to make summer camp happen.

Because of a God-provided insurance settlement, only about $175,000 in additional funds is needed to construct the new dining hall and replace the playground. This Sunday, Cedar Ridge is taking up a special offering in our worship services for this purpose. Our goal is to set the pace for area churches and raise $40,000. Offering Envelopes will be available this Sunday to give toward Sunset. Would you pray about how you and your family might participate above and beyond your regular giving?

Check out the video we showed last Sunday with Bryan Champ’s interview of Eric Hupp, Sunset Bible Camp Director.

Sunset Bible Camp

If you missed services this past weekend, this is the video we showed promoting our March 3rd offering to help rebuild the Sunset Bible Camp Dining Hall destroyed by the August 2012 Creek County Wildfire. Our Cedar Ridge goal is to raise $40,000.

Jim King and Sunset Bible Camp

I had a cool experience the other night. I met Jim King, a 1963 NBA second-round draft pick and 10 season player AND former TU Golden Hurricane basketball coach. Jim King developed the camp facilities that later, bought by Tulsa-area Christian Churches, became Sunset Bible Camp.

We asked Jim King to speak at Sunset’s 30 year anniversary. He had some stories to tell about how God’s hand was in the whole camp story. It was amazing to see how God orchestrated a professional athlete’s desire to teach basketball to kids and turn it into a place where thousands of young people would be trained to be followers of Christ.
