Dirty Jobs series – Work with a New Attitude

This morning I challenged our church to look at work from a different angle – to work with a new attitude. That attitude is one that recognizes the value of work. Work provides satisfaction and personal profit. Work helps us avoid tempation and teaches us character.

That attitude is one that goes beyond what is expected. Maybe your greatest testimony on the job is a hard work ethic. Colossians 3:23 NLT, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”

That attitude is one that demonstrates respect for those over us. It keeps work in its proper perspective. And it’s one that ultimately includes and honors God.

If we truly believe that God created work and created us to work and gave us whatever skills we have to work, than it means that work is a truly spiritual thing, no matter what our career. We can worship God as much in the workplace as we can in the sanctuary. “…whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Are your working with that kind of attitude?
